HydrantMap.org shows hydrants and other fire water supply points on a map and helps keep them up to date in OpenStreetMap.
What this is about
Many fire water supply points are already mapped in OpenStreetMap. HydrantMap.org makes them easier to see and easier to improve.
Find quickly, check calmly
The map shows hydrants, suction points, fire water tanks, fire water ponds and fire stations. Signed-in users can inspect hydrants and add known details.
Data from the OSM community
The information shown here comes from OpenStreetMap. HydrantMap.org is the working map around it: changes go back to the same place where other mappers can see and improve them.
For mapping, not response
The map is meant for checking and improving data. For real emergency response, information must always be verified through the proper reliable channels.
Inspiration
Hydrant maps have existed for a long time. HydrantMap.org builds on that idea and implements it anew for this project.
Independent project
OsmHydrant.org was an important inspiration. HydrantMap.org is a separate implementation with its own interface, wording and operating approach.
Original idea
The idea of a simple hydrant map for OpenStreetMap became known through the OsmHydrant project by Robert Koch. HydrantMap.org continues that practical approach.
Icons
Some hydrant and fire water icons go back to the original OsmHydrant project. The link points to the origin of that icon artwork.
Author and motivation
Fabian Flodman
Fabian Flodman is a member of the Rethmar volunteer fire department. The map grew out of an interest in firefighting, OpenStreetMap and building useful tools.
Translations
Some translations may still sound rough. Suggestions for clearer wording are welcome.
