This page explains who runs HydrantMap.org, which services are involved and how local browser storage is used.

How we process data for the map and optional survey features.

Hosting and access logs
Hosting and email are provided by ALL-INKL.COM – Neue Medien Münnich, Hauptstraße 68, 02742 Friedersdorf, Germany. The server processes connection data to deliver the website. Access logs are retained for seven days. IPv4 addresses are truncated, for example from 11.22.33.44 to 11.22.0.0. Statistics based on access logs are disabled. The purpose is to operate and secure the service, based on our legitimate interests under Article 6(1)(f) GDPR.
Abuse prevention
The application uses temporary request limits and security logs. IP addresses and browser identifiers are pseudonymised with a secret key. Regular maintenance removes security logs after 30 days and expired request limits after one additional day. The legal basis is Article 6(1)(f) GDPR, to protect the service.
OpenStreetMap sign-in
Signing in redirects you to OpenStreetMap. HydrantMap receives your OSM user ID and public username. Access tokens and an essential session cookie enable the editing functions you request. Sign-in ends when you sign out or after two hours of inactivity. The legal basis for requested account functions is Article 6(1)(b) GDPR. OSM edits are public under your OSM account and remain in OSM history according to its rules.
Contact form and email
When you contact us, we process your email address, optional name and message to answer your enquiry. The legal basis is our legitimate interest in responding, under Article 6(1)(f) GDPR. Messages are deleted after the enquiry is resolved, unless further retention is necessary to clarify the matter.
Optional survey points
After activation, we store your OSM ID and username, uploaded points, task lists, shares, progress, timestamps and moderation reports. On-site checks may record distance from the point and location accuracy. New uploads are private. Public content and associated profile information can be seen by other signed-in survey users. Shares determine additional access rights. The legal basis for optional storage is your consent under Article 6(1)(a) GDPR. You can withdraw consent and delete your content in Survey settings. Personal identifiers are removed from community checks. Independent OSM history remains available.
Internal usage statistics
When enabled, internal statistics count permitted events such as map views, tool use and edit results as aggregate counters. They use no tracking cookies and create no individual usage profiles. Public OSM changes may be counted by object type and country. Aggregate time periods are retained for 24 months by default. The legal basis is Article 6(1)(f) GDPR, to improve the service based on how it is used.
Local storage
With your consent, the browser stores language, map view, background map, layers and distance radius. The legal basis is Section 25(1) TDDDG and, where personal data is involved, Article 6(1)(a) GDPR. Your minimal storage choice is also remembered when you decline, so that your choice is respected, under Section 25(2)(2) TDDDG. Optional settings remain until you withdraw consent or clear browser storage. OSM edits require a network connection. Any remaining links to OSM objects already saved are removed when reconciled or when survey data is deleted.

Location and external services
Location is determined only after browser permission, using GPS, Wi-Fi or mobile networks. On the map it determines the view. Survey features send it to the server for a requested nearby search or on-site check. Tile providers receive your IP address and requested map area. Depending on the selected layer, providers include OSMF, CARTO, Esri and the mapping services of North Rhine-Westphalia, Lower Saxony, Bavaria, Hamburg and Brandenburg. These services may also process data outside the EU. Submitted place searches are forwarded by our server to OSMF Nominatim. Coordinate results are cached for one hour with a pseudonymised search key. The legal basis for the requested map and search functions is Article 6(1)(f) GDPR.

Your rights
Subject to the legal requirements, you have rights of access, rectification, erasure, restriction, data portability and objection to processing based on legitimate interests. You can withdraw consent at any time for future processing. Contact info@hydrantmap.org . You may complain to a data protection authority, in particular the State Commissioner for Data Protection of Lower Saxony.

Some hydrant and fire water icons go back to the original OsmHydrant project. The links name the relevant license notes.

Software
The map uses Leaflet. Leaflet is free open-source software; license notices remain in place when the project is redistributed.
Data and licenses
OpenStreetMap data
The map shows data from OpenStreetMap, including the base map, hydrants, fire water features and fire stations. The visible OpenStreetMap attribution must remain in place.
OpenStreetMap copyright and license
Map graphics and search
The default map comes from OpenStreetMap Foundation servers. If usage grows significantly, a dedicated or alternative map provider should be used.
Search uses Nominatim only after you submit a query.
Do not copy from closed services
Please do not copy data from Google Maps, Apple Maps, Bing or similar services. OpenStreetMap edits need your own observations or clearly allowed material.
Independent service
HydrantMap.org is an independent project. Other projects and services are mentioned because data, maps, icons or software come from them.
Larger data imports
Large imports do not belong in this interface. They need a suitable license, coordination with the OSM community and a clean import plan.
Usage rules
Check the data
HydrantMap helps collect and improve map data. Information may be incorrect, incomplete or outdated. The map, distance radii and quality scores are not a reliable basis for emergency decisions or proof of available firefighting water.
Contribute responsibly
Check the location, attributes and source before every OSM edit. Changes are saved publicly under your OSM account. Use only your own observations or sources permitted for OSM. Follow OSM licensing and import rules.
Uploads and sharing
Upload only data you may use and share for this purpose. Avoid personal, confidential or security-sensitive additional information. Before sharing, check what content and permissions others will receive. Shared task lists can also expose their contents.
Report problems
Report unlawful content, licensing problems or abuse through the report feature or info@hydrantmap.org . Content may be hidden and access restricted to address reports and protect the service.
