Visits to the site
Like most websites, HydrantMap.org receives necessary access data when you open it. Where the app stores such data itself for abuse protection or troubleshooting, IP addresses and browser identifiers are stored only in an obscured form.
Internal usage statistics
When internal statistics are enabled, HydrantMap.org counts technical events such as map views, opened views, used tools, selected base maps, device category, language and edit results. These statistics are stored as aggregated counters by time period. No tracking cookies, raw IP addresses or individual usage profiles are stored for this.
Public OpenStreetMap changesets may also be evaluated to count edits by object type and, where determinable, by country.
Storage period
Temporary statistics counters are processed in half-day buckets and moved into aggregated snapshots after a few days. The current default configuration keeps these snapshots for up to 24 months.
Local browser data remains on your device until you disable storage, delete browser data or the browser removes it. OpenStreetMap edits remain publicly traceable under OpenStreetMap rules.
OpenStreetMap sign-in
When you sign in, you briefly switch to OpenStreetMap. Edits are saved under your OSM username and are publicly visible there.
OpenStreetMap services
The map loads map graphics, search results and visible objects through the connected services. Searches are sent only when you submit them.
Local storage
With your consent, your browser stores language, map view, layers, coverage radius and temporarily loaded map data. Without consent, the map runs without this persistent storage. There are no tracking cookies or advertising profiles.
Delete local data
You can turn local storage off at any time. The app then removes saved settings and temporarily loaded map data from your browser.
Location
The location button works only if you allow it in your browser. The position is used to move the map and is not permanently stored by HydrantMap.org.
Your rights
Where personal data is processed, GDPR rights may apply, including access, correction, deletion, objection and complaint to a data protection authority.

Some hydrant and fire water icons go back to the original OsmHydrant project. The links name the relevant license notes.

Software
The map uses Leaflet. Leaflet is free open-source software; license notices remain in place when the project is redistributed.
Data and licenses
OpenStreetMap data
The map shows data from OpenStreetMap, including the base map, hydrants, fire water features and fire stations. The visible OpenStreetMap attribution must remain in place.
OpenStreetMap copyright and license
Map graphics and search
The default map comes from OpenStreetMap Foundation servers. If usage grows significantly, a dedicated or alternative map provider should be used.
Search uses Nominatim only after you submit a query.
Do not copy from closed services
Please do not copy data from Google Maps, Apple Maps, Bing or similar services. OpenStreetMap edits need your own observations or clearly allowed material.
Independent service
HydrantMap.org is an independent project. Other projects and services are mentioned because data, maps, icons or software come from them.
Larger data imports
Large imports do not belong in this interface. They need a suitable license, coordination with the OSM community and a clean import plan.
